    First Turongo, Maahina-a-rangi summit ignites thinking in rangatahi

    Eighty young people from Waikato, Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Kahungunu attended the inaugural Turongo, Maahina-a-rangi - Leaders by Design Summit held in Ngāruawāhia this weekend. It's the first collaboration of its kind between the tribes, aimed at developing future tribal leaders.

    Waikato Tainui begins build on Ruakura hub

    Waikato-Tainui has marked the official launch of its biggest commercial development, a major new inland port at Ruakura near Hamilton, with the turning of the sod by Kiingi Tuheitia.     Kiingitanga and Corrections unite to assist Māori offenders

    In a historic first the Kiingitanga has signed an accord with Corrections to reduce recidivism and reintegrate released prisoners with affiliations to the Kiingitanga. King Tuheitia's private secretary, Te Rangihīroa Whakaruru says the agreement changes the way the Kiingitanga does business with the government department.

    The Māori King attended his first Poukai at Maurea marae since receiving his kidney transplant last year. A carved tree was unveiled and 13 women received moko kauae and two men received mataora in honour of King Tuheitia's 10-year reign.

    Over 500 bikers took to the roads of Waikato as part of  Riders Against Teenage Suicide RATS.  Organisers, Ngāruawāhia based Tribal Nations Motorcycle Club say the campaign was supported by Waikato-Tainui as part of their goal to stop teenage suicide.
