The first 14 groups in the Te Ihu section of the Te Matatini festival took the stage today, and among them were three finalists from 2011; Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Ōpōtiki mai Tawhiti and Te Waihīrere.

Te Matatini archway erected
The countdown to Te Matatini has begun with the moving of the new archway from Te Puia to the stadium where Te Matatini will be held. With a 30 metre span standing over 13 metres tall and weighing approximately 26 tonnes the archway will frame the Te Matatini stage with carvings that represent tribes from across the country.
