The countdown to Te Matatini has begun with the moving of the new archway from Te Puia to the stadium where Te Matatini will be held. With a 30 metre span standing over 13 metres tall and weighing approximately 26 tonnes the archway will frame the Te Matatini stage with carvings that represent tribes from across the country.
Te Arawa subtribes Tapuika and Ngāti Rangiwewehi, each signed their Deeds of Settlement today to redress historical wrongs inflicted by the Crown over 150 years ago.
