A new "Easy Read" resource specifically designed for people with intellectual disabilities has been made to help them learn about and understand the Treaty, including their rights. The book, thought to be the first of its kind, was launched today at Hui Te Rangiora Marae in Hamilton.

Ngāti Manu and Ngāpuhi chieftain Pomare II signed the Treaty of Waitangi on the 17 February 1840. Pomare II who was strong in his beliefs and was a prominent leader for his hapū. On the 180th anniversary of his signing of the Treaty for Ngāti Manu, he was acknowledged at Karetū.

Waitangi Tribunal calls for the Crown to delay Hauraki settlement
The Waitangi Tribunal has declared that the Crown failed in its duties to act honourably. It calls on the Crown to delay settling with Pare Hauraki until it can rectify its processes. In their recommendations, they state that, “The legislation giving effect to the Pare Hauraki Collective Settlement Deed, and the individual Hauraki iwi settlement deeds, does not proceed until the contested redress items have been through a proper overlapping claims process.”
