Ngā Ringa Raupā- Carol Ngāwati
Tonight's Matariki hero hails from Ngāti Porou. She's been involved in education for 32 years and always fought for and found innovative ways for Māori to succeed in education, sport and health. The education advocate set up the first primary school bilingual unit in West Auckland at Ranui Primary. Along with her late husband Gerrard, Carol Ngāwati started Māori Touch NZ and still runs the Māori Touch Tournament 20 years on.
