While the Prime Minister is in China, Ngāti Whātua in Ōrākei organised a festival in Auckland to celebrate Māori and Chinese cultural ties here.
The doors of former Māori boarding schools Queen Victoria and St Stephens have been closed for over ten years now. However a feasibility group has been tasked with looking at whether the schools should be reopened, but an iwi representative of Ngāti Whatua says if the groups findings are unsuccessful the school sites should be returned to iwi.
