Te Matapihi, who are no strangers to the Aotea Regional competition, come to the 2014 event for their 9th appearance at this level. They take to the stage with heavy hearts, after losing their beloved leader, Jacinda Patea, affectionately known as 'Aunty Dolly', as recent as late March 2014.

Tūtū Kā'ika was formed in 2009, and placed with their strong debut performance at the 2010 Aotea Regionals. This advanced them to the national competition, Te Matatini o Te Rā, held at Waiōhika, Te Tairāwhiti in 2011.
