James Te Wharehuia Milroy QSO had his last send-off before he was laid to rest among the many great orators of our time in Te Arawa. One of his legacies was the establishment of kura reo, where students say that when one leader dies, another may rise to take their place.

The outpouring of grief for Wharehuia Milroy continues at Mataatua Marae in Rotorua. Among the mourners were the reo Māori students who he nurtured to excel in the language.
Ruatoki has handed over the mauri of Te Hui Ahurei a Tūhoe to next year's hosts, Te Kapa Haka o Mataatua ki Rotorua. Ruatoki, delegates from each kapa haka of Te Hui Ahurei and the Hui Ahurei a Tūhoe governance group were welcomed at Mataatua Marae, where the ceremony took place.
