New Zealanders who were abused as children while in state care presented an open letter and petition to Parliament today calling for a public inquiry and apology. Over 100,000 children were placed in state care during the 1950s and 1960s where many suffered sexual, physical and psychological abuse.

Far North District Council apologises to Iwi
The Far North District Council (FNDC) has apologised to local iwi after agreeing to set aside part of Ninety Mile Beach for filming by a UK-based motoring television show. Three of the four local Iwi say they had no idea, despite an agreement with the Council that they be informed of such matters.
