Mauri Reo, Mauri Ora is a series of programme content that focuses on entertaining and educating Kura Tuatahi.
Today we research our pepeha so we can create a visual representation of it. Utilising paper mache modelling and an added challenge for our tuakana & pakeke kids to research a whakatauki from their iwi or hapū for the end of lesson presentation.

G, Taking the skills learnt in episode 1, Koro Kunekune asks us to research a famous ancestor. Creating a biography of the tupuna rongonui to have for your library.

G, Students are introduced to Poua (strikes). Striking movements done correctly will teach students how to generate speed and power by combining correct feet positioning and the twisting of the hip.
G, Students will take a break from learning Ainga Aorangi and will learn a creative rākau sequence that allows the students to learn how to generate speed by using the dexterity of their wrist.

Students will undergo revision of the fundamental movements that have been taught in episode one through to episode three.
Students are taught a sequence of Ainga Aorangi that correlate to the celestial planets within our solar system.
‘Ko tōku ingoa, ko tōku tuākiri’. Today Koro Kunekune is getting us to research our names using whānau stories and photo research which we can present at the end of our lesson!
Students are introduced to Ainga Aorangi (sigils). Ainga Aorangi are ancient geometric shapes. Te Whare Rākau uses this ancient knowledge to teach mau rākau as a tool of transformation, rather than a tool for combat. The sequence that is taught correlates to planets within our solar system.
