In Episode 1 of Toi Stories, we meet carvers Kawana Waititi and Whare Bidois based in Rotorua, who share their knowledge and insight into mahi whakairo.

Students are introduced to mau rākau in a peaceful and egoless way. They will be taught fundamental movements that will allow students to become familiar with holding a rākau and moving it to specific positions.

In Episode 2 of Toi Stories we meet visual artists Kylie Tiuka and Regan Balzer, who share their knowledge and insight into mahi toi.
Today we research our pepeha so we can create a visual representation of it. Utilising paper mache modelling and an added challenge for our tuakana & pakeke kids to research a whakatauki from their iwi or hapū for the end of lesson presentation.
Students are introduced to Ainga Aorangi (sigils). Ainga Aorangi are ancient geometric shapes. Te Whare Rākau uses this ancient knowledge to teach mau rākau as a tool of transformation, rather than a tool for combat. The sequence that is taught correlates to planets within our solar system.
