EPISODE 5 - Fish Gills Experiment

Join us as we experiment with Fish Gills!

MATERIALS:
•    A glass
•    A coffee filter
•    A rubber band
•    A glass measuring jug half-filled with water
•    And coffee

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.    Place the coffee filter over the glass and fasten it using the rubber band – this will represent the fishes gills.
2.    The coffee will represent the oxygen in water. Take the coffee and pour into the glass jug filled with water.
3.    Now, pour the coffee and water onto the coffee filter.
4.    See how the coffee is captured on the filter but water drips down into the glass? This exactly how gills work. A fishes gills captures the oxygen in water, while the waters flows out back into the ocean.

And that’s how fish are able to breathe while underwater!
