The battle was on in Northland this weekend as hundreds converged Rugby Park in Kaikohe to watch the top league teams in the Northern regions go head-to-head for the big titles. So who came out on top?

Moerewa Tigers quickly came back in the first few minutes to equalise Muriwhenua Falcons' first points. But it wasn't long before Muriwhenua came crashing over Moerewa's defence to claim the lead again.

Moerewa scored their second goal of the match in the second half, but it was no way near enough to catch Muriwhenua Falcons. 38-10 final score.

Muriwhenua Falcons supporter Hone Harawira says, “We're happy it's begun, that's the most important thing. All of our regional clubs have been going hard since the beginning of the year to this day. Today the best teams in Northland have come out to play in the finals and communities of Northland have come out to support them. What more could you ask for.”

In the Premiership, Pawarenga Broncos meet the Kaikohe Lions. The host scoring first try. The bleachers were roaring in this first try by Pawarenga, however it was the lions who staked their authority. Final score 10-6 to Kaikohe Lions.

Moerewa Tigers support Billy Slade says, “It's been awesome for everyone involved. Big ups too Hone our manager Ken, Dave Bristow, Matiu, everyone that's involved from Muriwhenua all the way down to Moerewa it's been awesome, awesome comp.”
