Te Manu Huia were the final team to take the stage at this year’s Tāmaki Makaurau regional kapa haka competition.
Tutored by te whānau Wehi, this kapa has their sights fixed on Te Matatini 2017 in the Hawkes Bay region.
The Kaitātaki tane for the group is Kingi Makoare and Moeahu Kerehoma will stand as Kaitātaki wahine. Tawhiri Ruru will take a key role as the kaikōrero of the kapa.
The group has accompanied its senior kapa, Te Waka Huia, to the national competition eight times.
However, after they were unable to secure a top spot at the last regional competition, Te Manu Huia are determined to reclaim a qualifying spot for next year’s Te Matatini.
