Over 100 people gathered at Te Poho-o-Rāwiri Marae in Gisborne today to prepare for the up-and-coming "Te Kura Wīwini, Te Kura Wāwana" National Kapa Haka Secondary Schools Competition to be held in Gisborne from July 29-August 1.

The representatives from the host region say that the competition will be held under the guidance of Māori protocols.

Harata Gibson says, “Our elders have reminded us younger ones who are running the event, to look after our visitors no matter who they are or where they're from, if they are our guests look after them well.”

There'll be 42 teams from 14 regions competing in three pools over the four-day event, which is guaranteed to lift the standard of Māori performing arts to another level.
