Hawkes Bay woman Star Toko, has had a life changing smile make over. After winning the Smile Make Over competition run by Dental on Raffles in Napier, she is now able to smile again for the first time in years.

Star Toko, is in the dentist chair undergoing life changing dental surgery.

Dentist Gary Winter says, “When she first came to see us her teeth were in a really bad state, she'd had an accident as a youngster and her teeth had deteriorated over the years and she wasn't looking after them as well as she could because she thought it was a hopeless situation.”

The state of her teeth held back her confidence and meant she would often cover her mouth when talking to new people.

Star Toko, Ngāti Kahungunu / Ngāti Whatua says, “My main thing was like taking photos with my children, like making memories always deleting them because I didn't look nice in them.”

The 32-year-old mother of four received brand new composite veneers and a brand new lease on life.

“When I first took a look in the mirror I felt really weird it just took a lot of getting used to speaking properly because I was so used to hiding my teeth,” says Toko.

Winter says, “This is why I come to work to see the response afterwards, all of a sudden she wanted to talk to smile we couldn't shut her up hahaha.”

Her new smile has allowed her to cement her wedding date and this time she won't be deleting any of her photos.
