Hoop Nation NZ has taken a clean sweep in their first NZ Youth Tour that took six teams to Dandenong, Melbourne, over the weekend.
Six teams competed against Australian counterparts with great results. Hoop Nation played 42 games over four days, which resulted in 42 wins and six championship teams. Hoop Nation's founder Paul Berridge was elated with the results.
“It’s given an opportunity for New Zealand based players that wouldn’t get the opportunity to play the Australian style of basketball. We will see those kids come to our tournament in October”
Berridge adds, "It was a memorable and historic start to 2019 with 58 players and 20 staff touring to Melbourne to compete in the largest youth tournament in the world."
“It’s created interests with Basketball Academy’s and clubs that are based in Australia that now want to participate in New Zealand”
Hoop Nation NZ anticipates up to thirty teams from Australia attend this year's Hoop Nation competition in Tauranga.
