"He was known as a warm, humble man. He spent a long time within the Waikato boundaries, teaching students at Waikato University, generations who were wanting to learn te reo Māori. He was passionate about the Māori world," Minister of Māori Development Nanaia Mahuta pays tribute to Professor Te Wharehuia Milroy who passed away yesterday after a long illness.
Māoridom has lost a great leader with the passing of Wharehuia Milroy of Ngāi Tūhoe on Tuesday 7 May 2019, aged 82.
An exponent of te reo Māori and tikanga, he gave his all to revitalising the language.
