Artists challenge commemoration of Captain Cook's 'discovery' of NZ

A cohort of Māori artists is opposing Tuia 250, which commemorates the first contact between Māori and Europeans. The exhibition, 'He Tirohanga ki Tai - Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery', will be exhibited in New York, in conjunction with the UN Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues.


Integrating te reo Māori into the education sector

The government has announced today that they have begun delivering on a plan to integrate te reo Māori across the education system with the launch of Te Ahu o te Reo Māori.  Associate Education Minister Kelvin Davis says Te Ahu o te Reo Māori is designed to improve all levels of Māori language ability across the education workforce.


Govt to fund free licence scheme for youth on benefits

The government has announced it will pay for the driver's licence costs for young people on benefits or in care.  The prime minister expects 2,500 young people will obtain a restricted licence through the scheme, which she hopes will then move them into jobs.
