Rugby star Keven Mealamu has thrown his support behind a new tertiary scholarship fund established by Warehouse Stationery and The Salvation Army.
Warehouse Stationery invited school students around New Zealand to design new 1B5 book covers, with Mealamu judging hundreds of entries.
The three winning designs will be printed on thousands of books and all proceeds will go towards providing scholarships for up to six students who would otherwise not have been able to afford tertiary education.
Mealamu was qualified to judge the entries, having illustrated short story collection Superhero Pukeko & 7 Winning Stories.
“There were so many great illustrations and designs, it was actually really hard to pick just one in each category,” says Mealamu. “They were creative, colourful and fun, and showed that there’s lots of artistic talent out there in our schools, which is great to see.”
Each of the three winning students will receive an iPad and a $250 Warehouse Stationery gift card.
