Deputy Chief Executive – Organisational Transition

Shane Taurima joined Māori Television as Deputy Chief Executive in September 2018. As Deputy Chief Executive, he oversees responsibilities for content, strategic realignment and transformation over the next three years.

On Friday 14 December, Shane stepped into the role of acting chief executive for Māori Television.

Shane has more than 25 years’ experience across media and broadcasting including General Manager Māori and Pacific Programmes for Television New Zealand, Executive Producer of iconic programmes such as Te Karere, Waka Huia, Marae, Fresh and Tagata Pasifika. He is a former presenter of Marae, TVNZ7 and Q+A.

He started off his career in iwi radio and went on to manage the national Māori radio news service, Ruia Mai. Recently, Shane was the senior ministerial advisor to the Minister of Māori Development and Chief Operating Officer for the North Island Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency.
