An entertaining series where kaumātua reflect on their experiences growing up. In the first series, Maumahara captivated viewers, children and adults alike as the elders spoke about their lives, as far back as 1920. Our kaumātua still have many more stories to tell about the good times, the hard times, their childhood and growing up to adulthood at the village.
The third series of Maumahara stays with that format to capture the stories of kaumātua from Ngāti Kahungunu, with more emphasis placed on their views about the Māori language. The memories of these kaumātua are interlaced with their beautiful language, the music of Te Pou ō Mangatāwhiri, and records from their era.
To enhance this series, the kaumātua speak from their own homes, where they are surrounded by their treasures and other elements to assist in the flow of their stories and fond memories of growing up with their families, their friends, during an era of innocence, scarcity and hardship.
Maumahara will capture our history directly from our kaumātua.
