Kanikani Mai is best described as Dancing with the Stars mixed with Homai Te Pakipaki. Presented by Brent Mio and Lanita Ririnui-Ryan, Kanikani Mai travels to six locations around the North Island and asks locals to put on their dancing shoes.

The 6 episode series that screened in March and April 2012, pitted people of all ages an all dance styles against each other as they compete for a $500 cash prize for themselves and a major prize for their nominated marae. Each week Judges Christina Asher and Mika are joined by a celebrity judge.

Brent Mio – Presenter From Te Teko aka Texas in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Brent Mio started in radio, hosting shows at Sun FM in Whakatane as well as Mai FM breakfast.

Lanita Ririnui-Ryan-Presenter An all-time Rangataua Clubroom’s dancing champion, Lanita Ririnui-Ryan has always been an advocate for a good kanikani and is well known for her ambassador qualities when it comes to inspiring others to join in the fun.

Christina Asher - Head Judge Christina Asher is a professional actor, dancer, choreographer, director and casting director, and has a background in ballroom dancing.

Mika - Judge Mika is a truly original New Zealand Māori entertainer with three decades of innovative work spanning stage, film, television, fashion and music. He has toured his critically acclaimed live shows to seven Edinburgh Festivals.
