GHE PUATA WHAKAIRO

Friday at 8.00 PM

Young Māori are making their own videos for nationwide broadcast as HE PUATA WHAKAIRO screens on Māori Television on Fridays at 8.00 PM.

The 13-part half hour series is a film making competition screening in te reo Māori that is giving young Māori an opportunity to showcase their video-making skills and talents. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes risqué, the series is primarily aimed at young Māori teenagers who are still at school.

With more digital video technology available, film making is now more accessible to young Māori – particularly through schools where equipment is readily available as an integral part of the teaching environment.

The series aims to inspire the schools and students alike to put this technology in the hands of young people, so that they may portray their own ideas themselves.

Contestants in the series are required to script, shoot and edit their own completed short digital video of no more than three minutes in duration. Judged under categories including te reo Māori content, best sound, best music, best actors and so forth, the contestants are joined by seasoned film makers each show, who are responsible for passing their expert comments.

HE PUATA WHAKAIRO – on Māori Television every Friday night at 8.00 PM.
