HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI
RULES OF HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI
- Ngā kaiwaiata/contestants must be aged 16 years or over, and have never appeared as a finalist in the first series of HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI.
- Registrations officially begin at the Newmarket studio of Māori Television from 5.00 PM. Auditions start shortly after.
- Wear something warm to the audition and we suggest you bring a change of clothes for on-camera. There will only be time for very basic makeup. Costume and effort is encouraged as is a fun and positive attitude. You must be available until 10.00 PM that night.
- Contestants may be professional/non-professional singers of any ethnicity.
- The structure of the show sees the selection of a rōpū kaiwaiata (at approx 7.15 PM). Contestants from within the rōpū will be chosen at ‘random’ and asked to perform one of the songs they listed on their registration form. The producer’s decision about who is to appear on camera as a contestant and what they are to sing is final.
- Kaiwaiata are encouraged to audition as many times as they like, but once they have appeared on camera during this current series they cannot appear again unless invited by the producer (contestants from the first series are welcome to audition again).
- The winner is chosen by the most text votes received within the identified voting period.
- There are 20 heats and an opportunity to win $1,000 to the voted winner. Episode two starts May 2, 2008 and the heats run every Friday night until September 5 2008. There is no cash prize for the two semi-finals. The grand final consists of 10 semi-finalists vying for a $10,000 prize.
- No more than ONE contestant is to sing on stage at one time – unless it is a special duet episode.
- Songs sung from episodes 1 to 10 inclusive cannot be repeated. The slate is wiped clean and songs from episode 11 to 20 cannot be repeated. The semi-finals and grand final can feature any songs from the playlist.
- Only the contestant is allowed backstage – no other family members may accompany them unless they have permission from the producer. All contestants must arrange their travel to and from the studio at their own cost.
- Each contestant must be available to attend (at their own cost) the HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI semi-final and final – should they be voted as the winner of their independent episodes.
- Contestants will be disqualified for profanity or lewd behaviour and failure to complete their song.
- HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI security and team members reserve the right to refuse entry. Entry will be denied to someone who is perceived to be intoxicated by drugs or alcohol, behaving badly or in any way disrupting the recording of the show.
