HE WAI GEARS UP FOR ANOTHER SEASON ON MĀORI TELEVISION

We’ve had the hip hop crew W.V.V.L.C from Tuwharetoa with their mad flavours. We’ve had Ariana from Ngai Tahu spinning some jazzy grooves. We’ve had the T-Sistaz, Northern Born, Wairarapa and more fabulous original Māori musicians over the past months. Now, Māori Television is set to showcase another round of original Māori music as HE WAI launches its second series on Sunday February 6 at 5.30 PM.

HE WAI is a series that showcases studio performances and music videos from a selected range of seasoned and up-and-coming Māori artists. From hip hop to RnB to country and western, the ability of Māori to conceive and perform original music has been well proven.

Now, the White Gloves Television Productions series makes a second round on Māori Television with more tunes to soothe the soul.

The first episode of the second series will feature debut artist Piripi Christie and sensational Māori vocalist Jacqui Keelan.

Piripi Christie released his debut album Mo Ake on the Tangata Records label with the support of Te Māngai Pāho last October. After establishing his ability to compose and perform Māori songs in the Waitara Māori culture group Kapahaka o Waitara in 1995, Piripi has continued to fine tune his impeccable skills in traditional Māori performing arts for the release of his new album.

Meanwhile, vocally supreme songstress Jacqui Keelan will perform in her music video Kia Kaha – one of the tracks on the Wahine album. Chock full of funky rhythms designed by women for women, HE WAI provides an opportunity for viewers to indulge in her uniquely soulful voice.

HE WAI will screen its second season, starting on Sunday February 6 at 5.30 PM.
