They've bred players like Jonah Lomu and Piri Weepu, but the Wainuiomata Rugby club have never reached the premier finals in Wellington, until now.

Our reporter Ripeka Timutimu stopped in at the club as they prepare for their first Jubilee Cup Final this Sunday.

Finals rugby is new territory for Wainui locals, but they're taking it all in their stride.

Established in 1946, the club hasn't been without its stars.

Wainui's favourite son, Piri Weepu, won't be taking the field, instead playing waterboy, but his advice will be priceless.

This trophy is what they're fighting for. A first glimpse of a prize that has the whole town excited.

With the backing of their supporters, there's only one option for these players.

Wainuiomata will take on Hutt Old Boys Marist at Hutt Rec stadium this Sunday at 3pm.
