Today signals day two of the New Zealand Secondary Schools League Nationals, held at Bruce Pulman Park in Papakura.
The annual event has already seen red-hot favourites, Kelston Boys’ High School suffer defeat in round one of pool play, to Papatoetoe High School.
Papatoetoe High School head coach, Kaiui Tukinga, was quick to bring his side back to earth after beating a side of such calibre, such as Kelston. He says, “Straight after the game, I sat them down and told them to enjoy the moment, it’s a piece of history.”
The competition as a whole comprises 24 schoolboy league teams spread over six pools, ranging from Whangarei Boys’ High School in the north, to Christchurch's St Thomas of Canterbury in the south.
Today sees twelve games over the six pools. The last available chance for teams to make a run for the knockout stages of the tournament will be tomorrow, before the finals, which will be played on Thursday.
Raniera Harrison will have all of today's action tonight, on Te Kāea, 5:30pm, Māori Television.
