17-year-old Tai Wynyard (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) is off to become the first New Zealander to play for the University of Kentucky, one of the most revered basketball schools in the United States of America.
However Wynyard also admitted that he is going to miss home and especially his mother's meals. He says, “Probably my mums cooking, in all honesty, she makes some great desserts so I'll probably miss that yeah.”
Wynyard will receive a full paid basketball scholarship to one of America’s most respected basketball colleges. He will be guided under the tutelage of Basketball Hall of Fame coach, John Calipari.
“So many number one draft picks coming out of Kentucky with him as a coach, and so many NBA players coming out, they had what 7 players, go to the NBA last year,” said Wynyard.
Wynyard will shortly be boarding his flight to begin his basketball opportunity in America.
