With the NZ rugby player exodus, is it time for the NZRU to follow the Australian Rugby Union and give special dispensation to long-serving All Blacks?
The ARU have announced their senior rugby players will now be eligible to play for the Wallabies while playing rugby off shore. The ARU said, stalwarts who have played 60 tests for the Wallabies and seven years of Super Rugby or at international level, will be permitted the long-service dispensation.
Rugby commentator Te Arahi Maipi says he wouldn't want NZ to change their rules and this decision is to benefit the Australian team.
"Australia doesn't have a second tier competition like the ITM in NZ so player depth is lacking."
A number of NZ rugby players are set to head off shore this year, including eight All Blacks. Maipi continues by saying, the lure of the black jersey is the reason rugby players stay in NZ.
