Rotorua Boys’ High school have defended their Boys title at the NZ Secondary Schools 2015 National Championships, beating Hamilton Boys’ High in the final over the weekend at Bruce Pulman Park, Auckland.
Rotorua won this title in 2014, and won every game this weekend to make it to the final, where they beat Hamilton 4 – 2.
4 players from Rotorua Boys’ were also named in the New Zealand Selections – 2015 SAS Touch Secondary Schools Boys Team, including descendant from Tūhoe Ngarohi McGarvey-Black, who was also named Most Valuable Player.
In the girls section, Hamilton Girls High school also made the final; their opponent was St Kentigern College from Auckland.
It was a repeat of a match played on Saturday between the two teams, where Hamilton beat St Kentigern, 4 – 2.
But this was a different day and a different game, in the end St Kentigern got the win that mattered the most, beating Hamilton Girls’ in the final, 4 – 3.
In the mixed section, Mahurangi College and Whanganui High School played for the title. It was a close game with a total of nine tries scored, in the end Whanganui won by one point, 5 – 4 was the full time score.
