Just one year ago, Reuben Porter was another name at this Māori league competition last year, however this year, the 17-year-old has returned now as a member of the Sydney Roosters NRL side.
Reuben is currently in his last year of school at Mt Albert Grammar in Auckland but flies to Sydney every weekend to play for his league team.
This weekend he's back in the Counties Manukau jersey wanting to defend the U17 title they won at last year's nationals.
Reuben knows just as well that his team mates can get the same opportunity he did.
After completing school, Reuben will make the move to Australia, as another Māori player to chase the NRL dream.
