A group of Māori youth from Auckland found themselves amongst some of the country's top bull riders.
Despite being novices themselves to the sport, they took to the challenge with confidence at the Mid Northern Rodeo this weekend.
The crowd was quite intrigued with the bravery of the young Aucklanders, as it can be quite a dangerous sport, so all participants require a fair amount of courage.
According to Selwyn Tepania, “It's of utmost importance to relate to the animal you're riding, so all I focussed on was familiarising myself with the bull and having a good day.”
Today’s occasion had seen a positive turnout and the novices managed to survive to tell the tale.
