Ngapuhi's Vili brothers debut at Young Guns Boxing event

14 year old Nellijah Vili who is just starting his journey in boxing. He won his first bout as an amateur and now he can't wait to get back in the ring again.

The Young Guns Blazing event held on Friday night saw first timers Nellijah and Cameron Vili step into the ring bringing with them their Samoan and Māori heritage.

Cammy Subritzsky-Vili (Ngapuhi, Ngāti Kuri), “Of course that plays a lot within it because it's a mixed culture they're up and coming tigers they achieved a lot of stuff they want to achieve.”

Their opponents were from the Rotovegas Boxing Gym in Rotorua, Cameron lost on points to Carlos Allen and Nellijah won all his rounds for the victory over Michael Robinson.

Nellijah Vili (Ngapuhi/Hāmoa) says, “I feel incredible that I came out with a victory. When you do hard training it pays off in the ring and I'm happy it's all done.”

“I feel alright, I lost by points but it's alright I'll do better next time.” Says Cameron.

Cammy Subritzsky-Vili says, “The whānau were all rapt to come, I'm rapt that they all came to support Nellijah and Cameron. They trained really hard for this fight, diet wise their fitness, I'm proud of them and they did the best that they could do.”

In no time at all these young guns will be following in the footsteps of Joseph Parker. Watch this space!
