Five years ago, Cairo George (Tainui) was told he would never walk again following a tragic motorcycle accident. In less than four weeks he'll be entering the boxing ring gunning for the WBO Welterweight Asia Pacific title.
George fractured his lower spine in a motorcycle accident.
"It was the day I was told that i would never walk again and I started praying, and just thinking about my life and I thought if I can heal from this than I want to give life a good go and do things real positive," explains George.
Since the accident he's won two NZ boxing titles in the light middleweight and welterweight and trains under veteran trainer, Lollo Heimuli.
Heimuli believes, "Cairo is one of the world's best kept secrets in boxing. I've seen him grow from strength to strength but I'm not a coach that goes around poaching other fighters. I'm just so lucky that he picked me and asked me to work with him."
George comes from a whānau of boxers, it's all in the genes. He says, "I'm better looking, just the will to win is my drive everyday."
The Asia Pacific will take place on March 21 where he'll battle it out for the WBO welterweight title.
