The Brown Buttabean has responded to a recent Facebook callout video by challenger Tamati Keefe, the 140kg of pure Māori from Te Puru. He took on the fight after the challenge went viral on social media.
Brown Buttabean is amused by his opponent’s recent Facebook callout video.
In the video, Keefe says, "If you're not too scared and quaking in your boots."
In response, Dave "Buttabean" Latele said, "First of all the Buttabean is not scared of anyone so he's pretty much dreaming."
Buttabean has fought the likes of Manu Vatuvei's older brother, Lopini Vatuvei and Rugby superstar Jonah Lomu's older brother, John Lomu.
The new guy on the scene isn't a professional boxer but a true farmer, hunter and fisherman at heart from Te Puru.
"Same thing with Bear, my last opponent you can't look at their previous fights to try and get their style and prepare for it," says Buttabean.
Buttabean's trainer, Rakai Kirkwood, has no doubt that he'll be ready.
He says, "Fitness-wise he's looking good with all the amateur boxers that he's been jumping in on and he's very consistent, two to three times a day."
Team George Promotions are confident that Buttabean's opponent, Tamati Keefe, is a force to be reckoned with.
"I definitely won’t write him off. I got the feeling when I met him for the first time yesterday that he's a big unit," says Torchy George.
The Chaos in the Coromandel will take place in Thames on March 21.
