The Black Caps have beaten India in the first match of the Twenty20 World Championship competition in India, beating the hosts by 47 runs. NZ scoring 126 runs to India's 79.
The Black Caps won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite looking weak at the start and posting just 126-7 off their 20 overs, it was their bowling and fielding that got them the win.
NZ's accurate spin bowling and terrific fielding saw them respond well, India went out with 11 balls to spare.
Out of a total of 66 balls from the three spinners, 38 went scoreless.
India, the world No 1 ranked T20 side and tournament favourites, who had previously won 10 of their last 11 matches, were undone at their own game in their own conditions.
The Black Caps will now prepare to take on Australia on Friday night (10.30pm start NZ time).
