The NZRL Youth Rugby League tournament began today in Rotorua at Puketāwhero Park.
The round-robin has kicked off for the U15s, 16s and 17s. One region looking sharp is Auckland with three teams in the competition.
Auckland’s U17s team went head-to-head against Northland U17s today and managed to walk away with a 68–12 win over the region.
According to Northland’s second row player, Kawana Marsden, “Poor defence towards the end, like we go hard at the start but it's just the commitment towards the end we need to work on.”
This is the first time the competition has been held outside of Auckland. The hope is the shift will make it easier for the other teams to participate.
The eight teams will be putting in their best efforts leading up to the finals on Thursday.
