Auckland are firm favourites for the semi-final clash with Tasman for the ITM Cup. However, Bryce Heem is more concerned about taking on his former team in the do-or-die Eden Park encounter tomorrow night.
“At the moment, everyone’s looking at this game, and trying to take the bull by the horns and run with it,” said Heem.
He's been doing exactly that with the Māori stars of the team, who have been outspoken in their support of their new winger. Rieko Ioane says, “He's been awesome for us this year, explosive on the wing, so Bryce is going to bring his A game on Saturday and if he does Tasman has got to watch out.”
It's Auckland's first home semi-final since 2010. The Auckland team's success is a credit to how well their Māori team members are playing and being led by Ngāti Ruanui descendant Simon Hickey.
Māori or not, this Auckland side remains one of the steady favourites in the competition.
Tomorrow's clash kicks off at 7.35pm.
