Two Māori designers have taken the opportunity to be part of the famous hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert which premiered in Auckland last night. Priscilla is adapted from the 1991 film and follows drag queens Tick and Adam, and their transgender friend Bernadette, as they traverse Australia in a bus - named Priscilla - on their way to Alice Springs.

Taroi Black has been a journalist for nine years. He started his career with Te Kāea as a sports reporter in 2006, and by 2010, had merged into covering general news stories. Taroi also directed the 13-part documentary series, Poutiriao, which profiled the unique stories of Māori tribal and regional guardians. He has worked as a radio announcer for Sun FM 106.5 in Whakatāne and as a passionate netball player and enthusiast, commentating alongside former Silver Fern, Jenny-May Coffin, for the 2014 ANZ Championships which has been a major career highlight for Taroi.
