New Zealanders eat thousands of pies every year and there's nothing more comforting than a delicious hot pie on a cold winter day.
But who has the best pie in the country?
Judges of the Bakers NZ Supreme Pie Awards take pie eating very seriously, especially when they're searching for the best one.
Tim Aspinall says, “You can generally taste it in the first couple of seconds, is this? Not quite, is this? And you can keep going and going then all of a sudden ah? Then you've got one, and then if you look around at all of the other judges there more like, they are smiling and saying yeah! So you have a winner there.”
Head judge of the Bakers NZ Supreme Pie Awards, Tim Aspinall, is the only one who knows who has the best pie.
He says, “The winning piece has been found, but you see, you won't know more about it until tonight.”
Last year's Supreme Pie Award went to Michael Kloge from Carterton for their lamb and kumara pie, but this year's competition was fierce.
Aspinall says, “Expectations are high, and they delivered, they delivered very very handsomely and fillingly.”
There's no pie in sight at the moment but preparations are well underway for the event.
Later on tonight, the Supreme Pie for 2015 will be announced.
