Whangarei recovery centre brings native birds back to health

Whangarei's Native Bird Recovery Centre is tasked with helping injured to full health, however there's concern at the huge influx of orphaned birds or abandoned eggs handed in over recent months.

Baby chicks are a handful to care for, they need nurturing just as human babies do.  Survival of bird species is paramount, so if the eggs are ready to hatch staff at the Native Bird Recovery Centre become the surrogate parents.

As well as ensuring the survival of NZ native birds, the centre also focusses on educating the public on how to treat and nurture these birds back to health.
