It's been an emotional experience for the best friend of Tara Brown. Brown passed away last night, allegedly murdered by her former partner.
Tara was of Māori descent but born and raised in Australia.
Her best friend says she was a top Australian Māori touch player. She was also a member of the renowned 2sharp Touch Rugby Club.
Kendyl Te Rangi says, “One of the big things that stood out for Tara off the field was how much she loved being a mum and she lived life to the fullest."
The 24-year-old died last night of injuries she suffered during an alleged brutal road rage attack on the Gold Coast.
Te Rangi says, “We're so devastated because she was someone we loved dearly. We never saw it coming. It's so heartbreaking for so many people here and in New Zealand.”
Queensland Police released CCTV footage showing the moment she was run off the road before being allegedly bashed with a metal object. Her ex-partner Lionel Patea has been charged with murder.
Te Rangi called Brown her "right-hand man" and she dreamt of playing in the biggest touch tournament in the world.
Te Rangi says, “We did have our trip planned to head back to the Whakatāne Jan Touch tournament 2016. I've spoken to all the ladies in the team and they definitely want to make sure we do it for her.”
Brown's daughter is now being cared for by her family.
