Members of Tainui-Waikato have chosen the new Governance and Representation structure for the tribe's governance organisation.

The final count of the votes, which closed on Saturday 29th October, was concluded yesterday, with 72% of the 5,559 votes cast preferring the Marae Model, which would see each Marae selecting two representatives to sit in a Representative group with one Kāhui Ariki representative, and six representative members elected to a Governance group to sit alongside a representative of the Kāhui Ariki and two independents.

The final decision on the structure will be made at the next sitting of Te Kauhanganui on November 23.
