It has been said that some significant tribes are missing from the list to be represented by Tūhoronuku.

It has also been said that some haven't been in existence since the time when influential ancestor Rahiri reigned.

According to Hone Sadler, “To those who say we have resurrected, I say that is disputing genealogy.  Leave that issue instead to those who know their own origins.”

There are 22 representatives to be appointed to Tūhoronuku, 15 will be representatives from five regions within Ngāpuhi.

Those regions will see representatives for hapū listed by Tūhoronuku appointed.

Tomorrow, the first information hui into the voting and appointment processes for the Waimate-Taiamai-Kaikohe district will be held at Kohewhata Marae.

The information hui will commence tomorrow and run through to Wednesday night.

An election and appointment process to fill Tūhoronuku representative positions will commence in late March 2014.
