Police are investigating a video posted to social media of a male teen being pushed off his bike by a police officer in Mangere.

The video clip shows a group of teenagers walking along the footpath when a police car pulls over to the side of the road. The officer then gets out of the car, approaches one of the boys riding a bike and throws him to the ground.

Counties Manukau West Area Commander Inspector John Hewett said the group was said to have been acting in a disorderly behaviour weaving in and out of traffic on Saturday evening. There were also reports of excessive noise and alleged fighting.

Police received multiple calls from the public concerned for the safety of the boys.

Hewett says, "Police have concerns around what can be seen in the video posted on Facebook and accordingly have begun a full investigation into the incident.

We appreciate the high level of interest, however, we cannot comment any further until the investigation is complete."
