More engagement through science, students from Te Wharekura o Ruatoki were having fun today with the junior classes showcasing their talents to their fellow pupils, teachers and community.
Iwitoa Kruger says, “I can teach my parents, family how to do this.”
Te Rauaroha Smallman says, “What I really like about science is that it's knowledge.”
Mrs Nicholas has taught generations here at Ruatoki but the landscape of her community is changing.
“This is the world of science right here, where ever we turn. Children in today's world are always on cell phones, chasing information around the world. So we wanted them to look in this world and bring the foundation of science back to children of Tūhoe,” says Nicholas.
Maumahara Heremia says, “It's good. I really love seeing what the classes and teachers present.”
Taratoa Harris-Anderson says, “We mixed the colours, the two colours red and blues and then it turns to purple.”
The science presentations were well-received by their community and there are plans to make this an annual event.
