Glen Innes has had its fair share of rough times this year with the removal of state houses in the area but today new hope was given to the suburb with the official opening of the new buildings at Te Wharekura o Puau Te Moananui-a-Kiwa.

According to principal, Katene Paenga, “Today, actually started 21-years-ago, and it's only right that I acknowledge the whānau of those times, those who fought hard to have this school, which resulted in today's opening.”

As it currently stands, Katene Paenga says there are around 120 families involved in school and nearly 145 students ranging from new entrants to Te Wharekura age groups, with the hope that numbers will climb in the future.

“For me I want the school to have its classes at full capacity and hope the numbers get to 280 students,” says Mr Paenga.

There is no doubt that Puau Te Moananui-a-Kiwa will continue to have a long and prosperous existence in years to come.
