Proudly taking their first stand on the stage as Te Hiku o te Ika, this whānau is strongly aligned to the genealogical links and histories from Muriwhenua.

The group was established primarily as a ngahau or non-competitive group and encompasses both old and newcomers to the realm of Tanaerore and performing arts.

Connected to the iwi of Ngāti Kuri, Ngāti Kahu, Ngāi Takoto and Te Rārawa, the group can also affiliate to over 45 marae and are led by Morgana Thomas.

Today Te Kāea will showcase their whakaeke, “Nga iwi o Muriwhenua/Toro mai” a song written to acknowledge the late Kingi Ihaka’s contribution to kapa haka.
