To support Maori Language Week, local Auckland company 'Te Rehia Theatre' have been performing to primary schools in Whangarei. It has created a positive influence among Māori children and non-Māori alike.
Accomplished NZ actress, Amber Coreen is promoting Te Reo through her new stage play 'Hoki mai Tama ma', sparked by the day to day struggles she saw that her daughter had with the Māori language.
Not only is it encouraging the reo amongst children, it's also an instant hit with the kids.
The play has been a huge success at Raurima Avenue School for Māori Language Week, but Te Rehia Theatre Company hopes to push the envelope for more than just one week.
Teacher Aid Henare Wihongi supports 'Te Rehia Theatre' but believes the Māori language should be normalised throughout all schools in the country.
Only future will tell whether this will come into fruition.
